“Emma Emma Emma, where do we blimmin’ start! You’ve made this so difficult for us, because there is so much we want to say to you and I want to be able to write so that it does it justice, but literally from start to finish every single photo is perfect. Fact! You captured it all brilliantly, creatively, naturally and it was all done with such ease and panache. We both feel like we have relived the best day of our lives, and your photos did that. You’re a massive talent!”
Ahhh how lovely is that to read when you’ve just delivered a wedding, the best! When Anna and Jack first got in touch with me about their pizza filled wedding at the Walled Garden in Mells, I was so so excited. They were planning a really fun barn wedding with plenty of home-made touches such as cute succulents for table name holders, a traditional artisanal creperie (oh my these were good!!) and cocktails on request from Event Bars South West. Anna and Jack are the loveliest people, we had great video calls leading up to their day and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!
The excitement before the Wedding
I started shooting at The Talbot Inn, which has the most stunning rooms, where the girls were relaxing drinking some bubbles before the big event. It was a pretty chilled morning, mainly because Anna and Jack had done a lot of the preparation work the day before setting up their marquee. I do love bridal prep, I’m so not a girly girl but seeing Anna get ready was just so lovely, she had the nicest bunch of friends and family around her who were all up for a laugh! The lovely Faye, who was second shooting for me, spent the morning with Jack and the boys at the classy Babbington House, where they had a family footie match. Jack’s team lost, from what I remember! Anna wore THE MOST beautiful lace top from Emma Tindley, paired with a layered skirt and Jack wore a three piece from Cad & Dandy and they both looked so incredible. Sorry Jack, but Anna actually made my cry (the first bride ever) when she turned around in her outfit.
The Wedding
The wedding took place at St.Andrews Church, which was decked out with huge floral displays from the amazing White Row Florists, they were immense and made the church look pretty epic. Then the wedding reception took place at the Tythe Barn, at Mells Walled Garden, which was just a 3 minute (if that!) walk from the church. Anna and Jack had hired the Walled Garden and Barn for their reception, and then erected a marquee in the garden for their guests; I LOVE the succulents as name holders and all the beautiful wild flowers. It was so wonderfully personalised.
It was an overcast day, which was perfect for photos, us photographers don’t always want blazing sunshine! While the guests hung around drinking prosecco after the ceremony, I did some family photos in the cottage gardens and then we went on to shoot Anna and Jack. I think some of my favourite photos from our couples session are the ones just after the speeches and pizza, where we went for an adventure over a gate and they released the smoke bombs they’d brought, with much pyrotechnic help from Anna’s dad I might add!
During the reception there were guests having great fun with hula hoop dancing, which went down a storm with the kids too. I still haven’t mastered that skill! For dinner they had pizza from a van, and it was super yummy and vanished very quickly! Their speeches were hilarious and I loved that Anna did one too. Oh and in the middle of her speech she tried to set her brother up with a wedding guest, hahahaha!! After a few crepes for pudding and cocktails, which I’m pretty sure everyone should have at their wedding, the party got well and truly started and everyone hit the dancefloor for some of the best Beyonce moves I’ve seen!
I got in my car, sweaty from dancing and totally beat but with the biggest smile on my face. Anna and Jack you were just the best, your wedding was so much fun, I loved it. You were both totally chilled, totally trusting and I just loved being in your company. Keep scrolling to see more from their day! Thanks so much to Faye Taylor Photography for being my second shooter for the day, she was totally awesome.
